Archaeology at The Big Dig documentary premieres on SBS on 27 April 2020.

Art of Multimedia's recently produced historical documentary 'Archaeology at The Big Dig' premiered on SBS to Australian audiences on Monday 27 April 2020 at 4:05 pm. It reached an estimated audience of 93,000 metro and regional viewers.

Commissioned by YHA Australia, the film reveals the colonial-era history of Sydney's historic precinct 'The Rocks' through the archaeological evidence of over one million artefacts uncovered at The Big Dig.

2019 marked the 25th anniversary of The Big Dig Archaeological site below the YHA hostel. The Big Dig was novel in its approach when first excavated in 1994 and continues to offer innovative educational experiences, particularly since the construction of The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre in 2009.

This 30-minute documentary explores what makes the 10-year relationship between Sydney Harbour YHA and The Big Dig so special, through the voices of experts involved with the project since inception. It also provides entertaining insights into the early urban life of Sydney's colonial history, through some of its pivotal characters.

If you can't see Archaeology at The Big Dig at 4:05 pm on Monday 27 April 2020, you can watch it at your convenience on SBS OnDemand. If you are not in Australia, you can view the documentary on The Big Dig Education Centre website.

For more information, read the press release on the Sydney Harbour YHA or The Big Dig Education Centre websites.

Catering to all audiences, AOM also produced a 5-minute version for YHA visitors, and a 15-minute Education version. Read the case study here.
