Talking with a global workforce
With thousands of employees in hundreds of locations Transfield Services needs staff communication tools that transcend locations and languages.
Safety is a major employee concern where Transfield Services operates - maintenance and construction services to the resources, energy, industrial, infrastructure, property and defence sectors.
Art of Multimedia has developed a video which forms a key tool in a suite of communication activities to introduce a new safety initiative to Transfield Services’s 27,000 people across 21 industries and 13 countries.
Managing Director and CEO Peter Goode speaks to all employees in a dedicated video explaining the 10 Million Challenge, which was introduced company-wide in January 2012, and aims to achieve 10 million hours worked without anyone sustaining a lost time injury.
To achieve this goal Transfield Services needs all its employees to support the project by recognising how they can personally contribute. To engage individuals, AOM believes it is imperative to show real people in real working conditions demonstrating their understanding of, and commitment to, the concept of reducing worker injury in their own workplaces.
Within a short time frame AOM was briefed to develop a video script and storyboard; camera crews were sent to destinations including the Canadian snowfields and the deserts of Dubai to film employees on-site. People in diverse work environments spoke directly about what it means to them to be able to take the initiative in reporting unsafe working conditions, and of Transfield Services's response to ensuring high safety standards.
"Art of Multimedia produced a great video for us in a very tight time frame involving multiple locations and stakeholders – their professionalism and client care was first class at all times," says Felicity Pontoni, Corporate Communications Manager, Transfield Services.
Leading from the top, CEO Peter Goode and regional senior management also appear on camera to demonstrate their commitment to the project, and encourage all staff to be aware of their own and others’ safety, making sure everyone goes home uninjured at the end of the day. The 10 Million Challenge video is available for employees to watch with their supervisors, to stimulate discussion about how to recognise workplace hazards, and the individual’s authority to address them.
