Albury’s heritage buildings in the palm of your hand

Geolocation functionality alerts the visitor approaching a historic site. Silver bollards installed around the Albury CBD mark stopping points on the tour and promote the app, and places of interest, to passers-by. The app then describes each site with an audio track and accompanying archival images, both black and white and colour.

Content was developed with the Albury and District Historical Society which provided the historical description of each location, and supplied a wealth of images for the developers to choose from. Some are more than one hundred years old, and show day-to-day activities as well as formal occasions featuring mayoral and Vice-Regal visitors, as well as day and night scenes from different eras.

AOM approached the app with a clean, sophisticated design. The menu offers Walk the tour, What’s on in Albury (a subscriber feature for data collection and communication about events in the region) and location and contact details for the Albury Visitor Information Centre.

The app includes an automatic checklist that ticks off visits to each historic site, while the ‘Help’ feature shows the tour in numerical order 1 – 13.

“We have a rich history here in Albury and it’s really exciting we can showcase it in such a modern and accessible way,” says AlburyCity Tourism Team Leader Sue Harper.

“Its going to be a great new feature for tourist to the area and also for local history enthusiasts. Some of the most iconic locations are included on the tour. Although they are prominent places, not everyone is aware of the full story behind them. This app makes their history more available than ever before.”
